BMW. The 3-Series is a thoroughbred sport sedan while the C-Class was a kinda-sorta-maybe-sporty-we-still-want-luxury-though-car.

Yes. I did not know that build had the DCT. That still counts as a real one over a slushbox.

Also for full disclosure - my E90 M3 has the DCT too. I made a mistake by not getting Manuél. I have begged the Car Gods for forgiveness for my sins. And I just helped convince an Opponaut to convince his dad to get an E92 M3 Manuél so maybe that will help with my salvation.

Also have you driven the C63? I got a chance to and my god the transmission ruins it. I kind of liked everything else.

A DCT would have been so much better than the slushbox. The slushbox is so slow that it ruins the feel of dat V8

I can't imagine the transmission is that bad since people still buy AMGs, but not offering a manual says a lot about AMG customers.

Am I the only one that doesn't get the "jimmy rustling" from BMW's? I have no idea why, but I feel the same way about BMW's as I'd feel about a Peugeot. There's just nothing there.

PFFTTT. The Black Series is an entry-level luxury sedan with performance bits bolted on. The 3-Series was designed to be a sport sedan for the past 30 years. Mercedes realized this and that's why the new C-Class blows the other Germans out of the water in terms of (supposed) fit & finish and interior refinement. Mercedes couldn't beat BMW at the sport sedan game so they're trying to take the lead in the luxury sedan game.

I'm really getting depressed

Cars keep getting better and better from a performance standpoint

But they keep getting quieter and less involving because of emissions regulations driving the push towards turbos and DCTs

Can you imagine if the SLS had Manuél? I would die for one of those.

The new 2013-2014 Audi S6 is kind of a perfect all around car. It will be really tempting when they hit CPO in 2-3 years.

ANY AMG with a manual would be amazing.

The S6 is beautifully built inside and out, HUGE trunk, ridiculous performance. C&D picked it over the twin turbo E63 and M5!

It's almost the same car, it just has 30 more horsepower.

2013-2014 had the 4 liter biturbo V8 with 420hp.

i think i would go M5 just for the Manuél

speaking of which i'm having very bad thoughts these days

i'm thinking of trading a perfectly reliable M3 for a perfectly unreliable E60 M5 Manuél

i know all the downsides to the E60 M5

i know that the E39 M5 is a lot less troublesome and that the F10 M5 is a lot more luxurious

i know that with the E60 i'll have to keep doing expensive preventative maintenance in hopes of keeping the engine from imploding

by all accounts the E60 M5 is a terrible car to own

but N/A V10 sedan with Manuél!!!

I've never driven an E60 M5...but I really didn't like the E60 550i 6MT I drove. It's weird. I wasn't crazy about the ergonomics...and it just felt like a very muted car.

The F10 M5 is %50 more than an S6 (making it more impressive that C&D preferred the S6 too)

damn that sucked that the e60 550i was so muted. hopefully the M5 is much better. in my head it feels exactly like a bigger and more powerful version of my e90 M3. which would be awesome!

i just had a funny iMessage convo with another fellow Opponaut who likes german cars. i did some research for the convo. no wonder the F10 is not highly rated - it's a fat fat pig!

AMG of course. I'm nota fan of that BMW V8, mostly because they sound dumb with exhaust mods, or E9x looks. They look like a chunky kid feel over and is now angry he can't get up.

It must have been an older one, the newer ones have the Speedshift MCT which is pretty damn fast. The biggest problem with Mercedes transmissions is that they program them to not listen to driver inputs as much as other brands. A performance ECU tune makes a world of difference.

Bimmers have always been sportier, but I will argue that the new 205 C63 is much better than the latest M3 (F30?). Black Series is much more than just bolt ons, they have completely different suspension setups and external diff coolers, etc, and all the aero is functional. I know the handling isn't razor sharp but it's still a fun ride.

Nope. Only SLS, A/CLA/GLA45, and GT get DCT. Around '10-'11 they started using the SpeedshiftMCT though.

The C63 trades handling for straight-line speed. I'd daily drive an AMG, but I wouldn't take one to the track over an M car.

Fair enough. The track is fun either way though, and in no professional driver so it's not like I would ever really test either car's limit. They're focusing a bit more on handling with the upcoming cars, having driven them I can tell youthey are a vast improvement. Still don't have quite the precision of an M, but the feedback is better than an M.

the C63 that i drove probably was an older one because it had a lot of miles on it. did SpeedshiftMCT get revised in the later cars?

The early didn't have the MCT. So if it had the same headlights and dash ad the one above then it did, but if it had the flip up screen for the stereo then it didn't. Or the rotary knob with C, S, S+, M, and RS would have the MCT, no knob no MCT.

God I would kill for a modern AMG with a 6 speed manual!!!

It probably will be. And AMG will probably have perfect DCTs in a lot of models soon. But I still want Manuél! An SLS with a 6MT would be the BOSS car. Big N/A AMG motor, gullwing doors, 6MT. That would be a car I kept my entire life.
